Located in the Waihopai Valley, this garden is surrounded by vineyards and was fortunate to have mature trees and established hedges to provide structure for the new gardens. Extremes of temperature, wind and stony ground conditions provide challenges for plant selection and establishment. Initial planting focussed on creating shelter for future stages and the construction of new paths, lawns and outdoor living spaces using crushed limestone, macrocarpa sleepers and recycled concrete pavers. Further stages included a new courtyard garden, plantings around the verandah and sunken garden. Future plans include a glasshouse, picking garden and native plantings around the property.
